Artist's Statement

Soph Laugh is a contemporary American artist who lives between Paris, Mexico and the United States. Passionate about the preservation of antiquities and having traveled extensively for cultural edification, Soph is continually expanding her palette as she explores new mediums, techniques, and cultures.

Earning her doctorate degree in Philosophy from UNAM (The Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México), Soph brings a philosophical perspective to her artworks. Irrespective of whether art can be defined by contemporary philosophers or not, "Art is," as Soph puts it, "as much an experience as it is an artifact from that experience."

As a colorblind artist, "Mixing and combining colors that you do not perceive yourself is an exercise in faith if ever there was one," admits Soph.

Soph's aesthetic interests date back to early childhood. Soph's affinity for art was visible in her drawings of people, natural entities (sunsets, landscapes, flowers, shadows), and abstract entities (shapes, designs).

"The more artwork I create, the more I want to create."

Soph has created artworks for private collectors and foundations in Europe, the United States, and in Mexico.
